Discover the Green Places of Bratislava

Blog

Bratislava is a city of many green places, and you can find them on almost every corner. From palace gardens, to hiking woods, there is a lot of nature to discover even though you are in the capital city. Simply strolling down the historical streets and taking a little break in one of the parks on the way is something the locals enjoy doing, especially in the summertime, when the lush greenery and trees offer some respite from the heat. You will run into young families with kids, musicians, people working out, or just picnicking on the grass. Here are some of the best places in the city to join the relaxation.

Sad Janka Kráľa

This park is one of the biggest in the city, and it is a popular option for tourists who are visiting the old town, as well as the Bratislava castle. You can get to it by walking from the historical part of the town and crossing the famous UFO bridge. From there, you can enjoy great views over the Danube river and the waterfront. Sad Janka Kráľa is one of the oldest parks in Bratislava as well, and a lot of events are happening there regularly, from craft markets, to sport activities, so it is very lively, while still peaceful.

Železná studienka

Probably the most popular weekend spot for Bratislava locals, Železná studienka is a nature heaven, while a part of the capital city. It’s a forest parks, and you will definitely feel like you have just travelled pretty far out of town. It is quite easy to access by public transport too, and you will be able to do hikes, jogging, walks, or rent bikes. You will find many barbecue spots, so make a day out of it, and bring some food and drinks to enjoy in the quietness of nature.

Medická Záhrada

This small but very beautiful park is situated right on the edge of the historical town. It takes its name from the Medical University which is attached to it, and it attracts many university students during their lunchbreaks. The park was designed as a French baroque garden, and it boasts some beautiful plants and trees. It tends to get pretty crowded here in the summer months, but you will get to witness the true atmosphere of the city, so I think it is worth to visit anyway.

Presidential Garden

This is a garden connected to the back side of the Presidential palace. It is small in size, and naturally very well kept. It makes for a lovely afternoon stroll while on your way to the old city. You can sit among the colourful planted flower formations, or admire the specially commissioned statues placed all around. It is forbidden to bring in dogs or bikes, which makes the garden a much more calm place to relax in.
